GIST in Third Part of Duodenum Causing Partial Obstruction – Laparoscopic Management

Background: Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) arises from the interstitial cells of Cajal. Stomach is most common site GIST. The usual presentations GIST are gastrointestinal bleeding and abdominal pain. GISTs in duodenum uncommon. Duodenal obstruction due to even more usually detected on endoscopy, however they can be missed routine endoscopy if located third part duodenum. Computed Tomography (CT) abdomen useful determining exact size, location extent tumor. In absence metastases, surgical excision mainstay treatment. Case Presentation: We present a case duodenal 3rd duodenum, causing partial lumen recurrent pain vomiting. Although technically challenging, we successfully excised this lesion laparoscopically. Furthermore, as it was pedunculated tumor arising posterior wall performed novel technique laparoscopic duodenotomy stapling at base primary closure, rather than conventional wedge or segmental resection. Conclusion: Third difficult access surgically tumors by open method because technical difficulties surgery location. However, with adequate expertise advanced skills, accomplished good post-operative outcomes.
